At the North Bennet Street school there is a huge emphasis on using antique and hand-made tools, something that has always interested me.  In our firstst semester, we went to an antique tool auction as a class where we were able to buy planes, chisels, saws, carving tools, drawknives etc.  They only needed a few hours work, some new turned handles, their blades flattened and sharpened, and some love to be just as good or better than a new tool purchased today.  We also made some tools, such as the marking gauge and mallets show here, from scratch.

Pencil boxes: $55 - to $110 -  Many woods and designs are available.  I can incorporate a separate compartment for erasers.
